What People Say

What parents are saying...

  • For the first time in her life she is asking appropriate questions and giving more appropriate answers to others' inquiries as well!    I can't say enough good things about the program; it's been a huge milestone for my child.

  • Yes, they are learning about singing and music but even more importantly, they are learning to initiate conversations, to ask and answer questions, to follow directions, to tell stories about themselves, to think about situations and to share their thoughts.

  • I wish every student in this county could experience this program!

  • Voices Together provides a context for relationship building, and only in real relationships do teenagers get to advance in the social skills they sorely need to survive in the rest of the world, for the rest of their lives.

  • Not only did this program help them blossom and come out of their shells with new confidence and higher self-esteem, but they also made astonishing progress in developing communication and social skills.

  • This tremendous chorus has really helped my son in so many facets of his life, but especially with articulation.  We see a marked improvement in his verbalization due to the class. It is a wonderful program.  I cannot give it enough accolades.

What educators are saying...

  • The students look forward with great joy to the class and in general I have never seen so many of them interact so successfully.  Voices Together has the highest number of appropriate responses per student to any given question or interactive stimuli.  They are successfully engaged and anticipate their turn to interact with you and their peers.  It is wonderful to witness the impact of both the music and the professional understanding of how to best interact with people with Autism to engage them in such a meaningful experience. I am glad the whole class gets to go and hope this program can expand to reach more students who could benefit in our school district.

  • The program is structured in a way that captures the attention of students of all levels and motivates them to work in a group setting. This includes nonverbal students. The program gives everyone a chance to experience music as a performer and a listener. Performing increases the student’s self-esteem, promotes the ability to follow directions and encourages cooperation among the students. I feel that Voices Together is one of the most beneficial programs I have seen to increase the quality of life for our students.

  • As a result of their participation in Voices Together, several students have become more verbal, several students have become more participative in group activities.  One student who is limited in verbal skills came in one morning and said “Voices Together,” and the same student speaks more in complete sentences since his participation in Voices Together.

  • Each time the class leaves the Arts Center, they discuss the things they enjoyed and never have a negative word to say about the program.  My class looks forward to going each week and returns to school with musical thoughts in their head.  As an educator of special needs students, I have not found a program that the students enjoy more than music therapy.  I would recommend this program to any teacher of special needs students.

What donors and partners are saying...

  • We believe that Voices Together shows great potential for growth in the Research Triangle area where VSA arts is anxious to establish quality arts programming for students with disabilities.  We are looking forward to a promising future with Voices Together as it expands to provide its unique arts experiences to additional students with disabilities.
Leyla Sarigol, Director of Affiliate Services, VSA arts

  • In particular, high school students on the autism spectrum often face tremendous challenges in transitioning from high school into the community.  This unique music therapy program targets the very skills that are necessary to help those individuals become successful.
Jill Hinton Keel, Ph.D., Executive Director, Autism Society of North Carolina.

  • Voices Together is a program that will fill an important need in our schools and communities and I would like to fully endorse this very special program.
