THERAPY STAFF

Yasmine White MT-BC - Founder, Executive Director and Music Therapist

Yasmine White is a board certified music therapist and is the founder and Executive Director of Voices Together.

She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and continued in advanced studies culminating in her music therapy certification. She has over 20 years experience in music therapy. Having spent the last 11 years with her own private practice, she specialized in working with children, teens and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. The last 5 years she focused on the development of social skills programming and developed the techniques that form the core of the Voices Together method.

She has trained in the treatment of autism studying approaches such as Floortime, RDI (Relationship Development Interaction) Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Teacch.  She has given presentations, written articles and participated in I.E.P. treatment plans, evaluations, and in-service training.

She is also an award-winning songwriter and has written most of the technique songs used in the Voices Together programs.

Kimberly Harrer MT-BC - Music Therapist

Kimberly Harrer received her music therapy degree from the State University of New York, College at Fredonia, and then completed her internship at John Umstead Hospital in Butner, North Carolina.

Kim has been practicing Music Therapy for over nine years and has specialized in the area of Autism.   She has been with Voices Together for one year as a lead facilitator with a specialty in the younger age groups helping develop our "Little Voices" programming  as well as developing the use of drumming  in our sessions.

She holds a national board certification in music therapy and is currently the President Elect and Government Relations Committee Chair of the Music Therapy Association of North Carolina.

Lara MacCallum MS, MT-BC - Music Therapist

Lara MacCallum received her Bachelor of Music Therapy from Radford University in 1998. More recently, in 2008, she graduated again from her alma mater with a Masters in Music Therapy as a Graduate Teaching Fellow. During her graduate career, she authored an extensive review of literature on the treatment of autism. Lara has worked as a full-time music therapist for over ten years, in cities including Montreal, QC; Phoenix, AZ; Philadelphia, PA; and Providence, RI.

During her professional experiences, she has created music therapy programs for individuals and groups, independently and within team environments. She has worked in a wide variety of settings, primarily with individuals with developmental differences and social/emotional needs. As part of her continued education, Lara has specialized training in Nordoff-Robbins Creative Music Therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy, and is currently in the process of completing her final level of The Helen Bonny Method of Guided Imagery with Music (GIM). In addition to having a passion for music therapy, Lara also enjoys pursing and expanding her talents as a musician and singer/songwriter.

Jenna Witcher MT-BC - Music Therapist

Jenna Witcher was raised in a family of music educators in Lenoir, NC. With an interest in psychology and a desire to follow in the footsteps of her family, she found a career that combined both! She studied music therapy at Appalachian State University, completing her coursework in May of 2007. She fulfilled her graduation requirements with the completion of her music therapy internship in 2008.  For her internship, she worked in the Fulton County Schools in Atlanta, Georgia, with children  with developmental disabilities and autism.  Jenna holds her national board certification and works as a music therapist with Voices Together. 

In addition to being a music therapist with Voices Together, she is also the music director of the Voices Together Singers.

Whitney D. Smith MT-BC - Music Therapist

Whitney D. Smith received her Bachelor of Music degree from Queens University of Charlotte, NC through the music therapy program.  Upon graduating, she completed her music therapy internship at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC.  She has been practicing as a board certified music therapist since 2008 and has had the opportunity to work in a variety of different settings.  Whitney enjoys singing, playing guitar and piano. 

Working as a music therapist with Voices Together, she is able to fulfill her life long dream of helping others through music.

What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

What is the overall aim of music therapy?

The overall aim of music therapy is to actively engage individuals in their own growth, development and behavioral change and for them to transfer musical and nonmusical skills to other aspects of their lives, bringing them from isolation into active participation in the world.
