Megan Gallik, MT-BC

Megan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy and joined our team from northeast Pennsylvania. There she worked at an organization to help create and implement a music therapy program for children and adolescents with mental health. She will utilize her counseling skills and everything she has learned to serve the people at Voices Together. She is very excited to be able to continue to use her passion of music to help others!

Q: What are the qualifications for becoming a music therapist and how did you attain them?

I attained the qualifications of becoming a music therapist by receiving my Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy from Marywood University, an accredited university, in Scranton, PA in May 2016. I then completed a six-month clinical internship at Heartland Hospice in Allentown, PA. From there I was eligible to sit for my board exam where I received the credentials of MT-BC (music therapist – board certified). I have had the pleasure of being able to serve a variety of populations throughout my clinical and professional experience!

Q: What do you love about music therapy?

Is everything an appropriate answer? Honestly, I feel the power of music is huge in self-expression, communication, and a lot of other areas of development for people who have a disability. I also love that music therapy allows me use my passion of music to help others live up to their best potential and express themselves in such a creative way. I love that music therapy is so motivating, relatable, and creative. It really allows for a safe space for the clients to express and be themselves! There is always something I am learning about this amazing field of work… I could talk about it forever!

Q: What you enjoy about working at Voices Together as an organization and your role at Voices Together?

I am eager to begin sessions with clients and be able to serve the amazing people involved in Voices Together. I love how our organization is client centered and how it really gives the opportunity for our clients to have a voice, gain skills, and live up to their best potential through the use of music.

Q: What other interests do you have outside music therapy?

I love being outdoors and exploring new places whether it is running on a new path or finding a new workout class, taking a weekend trip somewhere I’ve never been (the beach is my favorite!) or finding a new place to eat! While I love being outside, I am also a big fan of binge-watching TV shows on Hulu or Netflix, most especially The Office, playing guitar, and doing crafty projects. I am always up to discover and experience something new and fun!
