Pre-ETS Vocational Training

Voices Together is a non-profit music therapy organization in Central North Carolina that is a service provider for Pre-ETS (Pre-Employment Transition Services) through the NC Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. (VR)

The Voices Together program helps students learn to speak and listen, work well with others, manage their emotions, and learn job skills. Music therapists use counseling skills to validate participants as they learn how to communicate in a work environment, self-regulate their behavior, and ask for help. The program uses music and educational techniques to build important skills to help each student transition from school into the community.

Every student, both verbal and non-verbal, can benefit from the program.

One Voices Together music therapist will be assigned to each group (8-12 students) and will offer a 45 -60 min session once a week. In each interactive session students are arranged in a semi-circle around the music therapist. The structured program begins with a written schedule of the program activities for that session.  Every session includes a discussion section, problem solving and practice elements with peers.

Workplace Readiness – “LEADERSHIP AT WORK”

This 8 week session will begin the week of June 17th and continue through August 12th. There will be a break the week of July 1st for the Independence Day Holiday.

Voices Together therapists use counseling skills to validate participants as they learn what makes a good leader, how you become a team leader, and discuss what is hard about leading and what can be good about leading.

Sessions will be held at multiple community locations, including Chapel Hill, Holly Springs, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest, and Jamestown/Guilford County. More locations will be opened based on interest. For specific times/locations, please click here. To register your child, please contact McKenna Lakin, Program Manager, at or 919-283-5629. This program is offered at no cost through the NC Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.  Act quickly, space is limited.

Voices Together has developed an innovative and evidence-based program that has had transformational outcomes in North Carolina communities, public school EC classrooms, and vocational settings since 2007.

The Voices Together board-certified Music Therapist facilitates the weekly sessions. Voices Together therapists possess a Bachelor or Masters in Music Therapy, have completed a practicum & internship, and received advanced training in the VOICSS® method.

Voices Together has partnered with the Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development, as well as several Duke research teams for several research projects that deem the VOICSS® model as a best practice in the field of music therapy.
