Jan Riggsbee is a Professor of the Practice in Education at Duke University and founding director of Duke TeachHouse, a first-of-its-kind living and learning community for early career teachers focused on teacher leadership, school innovation and teacher health and wellbeing.

As a senior member of the education faculty, she has served the department and university in various leadership roles during her Duke career, including two terms as director and chair of the Program in Education; director of Duke’s K-6 Teacher Preparation Program; director of Knowledge in the Service of Society FOCUS cluster, an interdisciplinary living and learning experience for first-year students; and faculty mentor for two Bass Connections project teams.

A seasoned educator, Riggsbee has served as a school administrator, literacy specialist, teacher educator and curriculum consultant at both public and private educational institutions. Her research has focused on teacher growth and development, mentorship and coaching, school innovation and reform, and community-based learning.

She was honored with the Trinity College Distinguished Teaching Award/Robert B. Cox Award and David E. Paletz Award for Innovations in Teaching.
