She and her husband Kevin co-founded The Redwoods Group, a company committed to being a strong engine for positive social change. She serves on the board of directors of Latino Educational Achievement Partnership (LEAP) and as an advisory member for the Tomorrow Fund, an organization helping first-generation Latinos meet the financial challenges associated with attending college.

She has been a volunteer with Teach for America, a Sunday school teacher for her church and a supporter of WUNC and Camp Kesem.

Trapani and her husband have served as co-chairs of the Triangle Land Conservancy River Society and EnLIST, a group of key supporters of the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University. They chaired the Annual Campaign for the YMCA of the Triangle for 2019-2020.
